Head of Research & Retirement Income
Matt joined IOOF in April 2018, in the role of Head of Research & Retirement Income. Matt is responsible for the development of IOOF’s investment philosophy and oversight of the teams performing managed funds research, portfolio construction, direct equities research and macroeconomic research. He chairs the Approved Product Committee. Matt is also responsible for the development of IOOF’s Retirement Income Framework and chairs the Retirement Income Working Group, which draws insights from across the organisation.
Matt comes to IOOF having most recently been in the role of Chief Executive Officer of Lonsec Research with oversight of their investment consulting, manager research, direct equities research and business development teams. Prior to Lonsec, Matt was Chief Investment Officer of a $5 billion Industry Super Fund. Matt also has extensive experience as a buy-side investment analyst responsible for stock selection and sector research on the ASX and global listed equities. Prior to this Matt held roles at Banker’s Trust and JP Morgan in Equity Derivatives.
Matt holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of NSW and is a Chartered Accountant.
Senior Manager Managed Funds and Special Products Research
Aidan Haines joined IOOF in October 2018 after the purchase of ANZ Wealth and is responsible for managed funds, insurance, annuities and platform research across all IOOF dealer groups. Prior to IOOF, Aidan worked within ANZ Wealth for close to two years and was responsible for leading managed funds research across all ANZ Wealth advice channels. This included management of the groups approved product lists across all asset classes and investment related material.
Prior to ANZ, Aidan was employed at BT Financial Group as a Senior Investment Analyst primarily responsible for managed funds research and model portfolio construction across fixed income and more specialist sectors within International equities. Aidan has also worked in investment product management and client facing roles at MLC Investment Management and AON.
Aidan has a Master of Applied Finance from Macquarie University and Bachelor of Business (Bank & Fin) /Bachelor of Science degrees.
Senior Manager, Direct Equities
Jake leads IOOF’s Direct Equities Research and Portfolio Construction team. His duties include performing fundamental equity research on a range of Australian equities and constructing IOOF’s Direct Equities Model Portfolios. Prior to joining IOOF, Jake worked as an Equities Analyst at CBG Asset Management for 7 years, covering the consumer staples, consumer discretionary and media sectors.
Before joining CBG Asset Management, Jake worked at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu in the Risk Services division. Jake has a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Finance and Economics from Sydney University.
Senior Manager, Portfolio Construction
As Senior Manager, Portfolio Construction, Andrew leads the team that is responsible for providing portfolio construction solutions for advisers and clients across IOOF’s Aligned Financial Planning businesses. This includes both leadership of the team which develops, maintains and manages model portfolios and also the provision of investment strategy and asset allocation advisory services.
Andrew has worked in Financial Markets for over a decade, and has spent most of this time helping Financial Advisers construct and manage portfolios for their clients. He has worked across the spectrum of Asset Classes, providing advice and guidance on Australian and Global Equities, Government and Corporate Fixed Income as well as Foreign Exchange and Derivatives.
Andrew worked in the ANZ Advice Research team for 12 months prior to the acquisition by IOOF, and was previously employed at Morgan Stanley and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. In previous roles he has constructed Equities and ETF Portfolios, managed Corporate Actions and Capital Raisings and conducted Investment Presentations to both Advisers and their clients.
Andrew is a CFA Charterholder, and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Sydney majoring in Accounting and Finance along with a Diploma of Financial Planning.
Daniel is responsible for the maintenance and analysis of IOOF’s model portfolios. This includes asset allocation, manager blending and performance analysis. Daniel joined the IOOF Research Team in July 2015.
Daniel previously spent two and a half years with Challenger Limited as a Reporting Analyst & Funds Administrator working across numerous funds at Challenger, under their Fidante Partners Business. Prior to his role at Challenger he also worked at Morgan Stanley within their investments division. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Economics and Business Law, from The University of Wollongong and is currently working towards completing his Masters of Finance degree at the University of Technology, Sydney.
Steve O'Hanna recently joined IOOF’s Direct Equities Research and Portfolio Construction team. Steve is responsible for contributing to the fundamental direct equities research effort in addition to the construction of IOOF’s Direct Equities model portfolios.
Prior to joining IOOF, Steve was self-employed, successfully managing several discretionary Australian equity portfolios. Prior to this Steve worked for Fat Prophets Funds Management for 8 years. Steve co-managed an ASX listed, Listed Investment Company, in addition to being lead analyst for both an ASX Resources SMA and an ASX Income focused SMA.
Prior to Fat Prophets, Steve worked for Advance Asset Management, as an equities dealer and assistant analyst for an Australian REIT portfolio. Steve has a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Finance from the Australian Catholic University.
Senior Research Analyst
Alex Harris is a member of the Managed Funds Research Team, reporting to Aidan Haines, covering a range of asset classes. His duties include assisting in the evaluation of external fund managers, incorporating a combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis. He also contributes to IOOF’s macroeconomic research.
Alex has over 10 years’ experience within dealer group research teams. His primary responsibilities have been managing approved products lists and model portfolios and participation on investment committees. He has significant experience in developing strong working relationships with financial planners, investment managers and research providers. Alex has also worked as a paraplanner and training facilitator.
Alex holds a Bachelor of Business majoring in Economics and Finance from Western Sydney University and a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and Investment.
Economics and Strategy Analyst
Cameron joined the IOOF Advice Research Team in February 2018. Cameron undertakes economic and market research with a focus on macroeconomic themes including the IOOF capital market assumptions. He also provides input to the Portfolio Construction team.
Prior to joining IOOF, Cameron worked at IAG for 4 years in a variety of actuarial roles ranging from reserving to capital modelling.
Cameron holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Sydney and is an Associate of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia.
Simon joined the IOOF Advice Research team in October 2018. Simon undertakes qualitative and quantitative research for managed funds across all asset classes. He is involved in the oversight and analysis for all licensee model portfolios which includes manager selection decisions. He has developed strong working relationships with financial advisers across the network.
Simon has over 8 years’ experience working within dealer group research teams and 13 years overall in the Wealth management industry. Prior to joining IOOF he worked at ANZ for 1 year in the ANZ Advice Research team, prior to this he worked at BT Financial Group (BTFG) for 7 years in the BTFG Advice Research team.
Simon holds a Bachelor of Economics majoring in Banking and Finance, Bachelor of Business (Honours) with Distinction and a Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning).
Katrina joined the Research team in June 2016 as an Investment Analyst. Her duties include undertaking research on managed funds, platforms, annuities, bonds, insurance and other financial products. She is also heavily involved in the Managed Accounts initiative to help make the Model Portfolios a more efficient and compelling service offering for clients. This broad product exposure has given her the ability and expertise to help advisers improve their total value proposition. She has a passion for promoting high quality investment advice.
Prior to the acquisition of ANZ Wealth by IOOF, Katrina was responsible for the management of research house and external platform relationships on behalf of the ANZ Wealth Chief Investment Office. Her prior role as a Wealth graduate enabled her to gain experience in product management, sales strategy, analytics and finance business partnering.
Katrina holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of New South Wales (majoring in Accounting & Finance) and a Diploma of Financial Planning. She was also recently named a Finalist in the 2017 Financial Services Council Future Leaders Aware Program.
Wishwesh is an Analyst for the IOOF Research Team joining in September 2017. He contributes to the evaluation of external fund managers, incorporating a combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis across infrastructure and REITS. Prior to joining IOOF, he worked at Ord Minnett as an associate within the equity strategy team, with responsibility for providing portfolio and strategic research to the firm’s network of financial advisers and private clients.
He was also responsible for market-based commentary, generating investment ideas, contributing to the investment strategy, and holding client seminars. Wishwesh has more than 7 years of finance-industry experience, and began his career as an investment analyst with KPMG in Dubai and Qatar. Wishwesh has a Bachelor of Commerce from Griffith University, majoring in accounting, banking & finance.
Jay joined the Research Team in February 2018 as a Research Associate. She performs research on managed funds, contributes to research publications, attends to planner queries and assists with reviewing research related materials.
Previously, Jay worked as a Personal Trust Associate liaising with private clients and investment managers and prior to this worked at Multi-National Corporations.
Jay holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Economics degree majoring in Finance, Accounting and Economics from the University of New South Wales.
Erik joined the Research team in April 2019 and contributes primarily to the research of platforms and managed funds. He also assists in writing market commentary and the day-to-day management of licensee APLs.
Prior to joining IOOF he worked at Russell Investments for two years before working in AMP’s product management team for over three years with responsibilities across a variety of product portfolios, both contemporary and the more complex mature offerings such as conventional products and deferred annuities.
Erik holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of New South Wales.
Thomas Wang joined the IOOF Advice Research team in March 2019 and he is responsible for conducting managed funds research across all asset classes.
Prior to joining IOOF, Thomas worked in managed funds research at BT Financial Group for over 5 years, at first in the BT Advice Research team and subsequently, in the Investment Research & Governance team.
Thomas holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of New South Wales (majoring in Economics & Finance), an Advanced Diploma of Financial Planning and he is currently a CFA Level 2 candidate.
