Age pension
Providing a basic income for your retirement
We can help you understand whether you are eligible for the Age Pension
The Age Pension is a regular government payment that provides you with an income once you have reached a certain age.
Your eligibility for the Age Pension is determined by a set of complex government rules. There are several rules around who can receive the Age Pension but the most important ones are the Assets test and the Income test. If your assets and income are over a certain level then the government will reduce or remove your Age Pension payment.
To be eligible you must be:
- Older than 65 and a half years
- Have income and assets that are lower than the test limits
- An Australian resident, normally for at least 10 years.
The way you organise your financial situation may affect your eligibility for the Age Pension. The Assets test, for example, does not include your main home regardless of how much it is worth.
A financial adviser can help you navigate the complex rules and tests that determine whether you can receive an Age Pension. To find out more you should speak to your financial adviser. If you don’t have a financial adviser, we can help you find one.
