Choosing a Financial Adviser
A financial adviser has the expertise to tailor a financial plan that acknowledges your preferred lifestyle yet suits your investment objectives. When selecting a financial adviser to work with you, we recommend you look for someone who has the highest qualifications and experience to provide you with the highest quality of advice.
Things to look for:
- Ensure they are registered with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC). The adviser you choose should be a holder of an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFS Licence) or an authorised representative of an AFS Licence holder.
- They should be a member of their national body, such as the Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA) or the Association of Financial Advisers (AFA).
- Prior to committing to a financial plan, the adviser should clearly outline, in writing, the strategy they propose.
- You need to have an open and trusting relationship with your adviser.
- Your financial plan is the key to your future financial security - as such, it is an evolving document that needs to be finetuned regularly to accommodate changing circumstances and requirements.
